I’m glad you’re here. As a Registered Dietitian, I practice a holistic and integrated approach to wellness that honors the unique elements of each individual and incorporates my background in nutritional science as well as my experience in coaching thousands of people towards living their healthiest life.
As a Certified Lactation Educator, Gottman’s Bringing Baby Home Educator and mother, I am passionate about holding space for women and mothers to explore their relationship with food, their bodies, minds and hearts so they can feel more fully connected and aligned to shine their light in their family relationships and in this world. When women are fueled, inspired and connected, we can truly flourish.
What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic nutrition means that food isn’t the only thing that nourishes us. There are many other forms of ‘food’ that don’t come on our plates. We call these areas primary foods. Things like relationships, physical activity, career and spiritual practices help nourish us on a much deeper level. When any of these areas are out of balance, there tends to be an over dependence on secondary foods, the foods we eat. During our work together, we will explore your primary foods as well as secondary foods enabling you to get to the root of emotional eating and heal unhealthy habits.
I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia in a large and very close Italian family. Food was and is a huge part of our lives. However, I was always the ‘chunky’ kid among my family and friends. This always made me feel self conscious and over time created a negative association with food.
I remember comparing my body to all the other skinnier girls wishing that I was a smaller size, had a flatter stomach and leaner arms and legs.
“Food became the enemy.”
I started counting calories, writing down everything I ate and became obsessed with trying all the new fad diets in hope’s to see the scale move. Sugar-free, fat-free, low-fat, low-carb, anything fake would do as long as it didn’t have a lot of calories! I would workout at the gym and watch the amount of calories I burned. Figuring out what to eat was frustrating and felt like work.
“My ultimate goal was to lose weight. Until one day…”
I was working for Canyon Ranch and listening to the nutrition expert train us on the Canyon Ranch philosophy. She reminded me that food is meant to nourish and enhance our health. When we feed our bodies the right way, our weight adjusts, we can prevent disease and heal ourselves from the inside out. (Cue the “AHA” moment!) All this time I had been focused on losing weight regardless of if it was healthy or not. Then, it struck me, I have been fighting with food all this time. What if I shifted my thinking and approached food as a true source of nourishment?
“I started to become very curious about REAL food and ditched the diet foods. I gave myself permission to explore and experiment.”
By eating more fresh, whole and organic foods, I felt more energized, leaner and happier. I lost weight effortlessly as a result of these simple diet changes. I not only looked and felt better, but my relationship to food changed. I started enjoying food, experimented with cooking new ingredients and learned to listen to my body and the way it felt before, during and after eating. Becoming more mindful of my eating had a profound effect on my relationship with food and my body.
“I started to value and practice self care, self love and self compassion. Food became fun and way to express love for people.”
I now realize food is not only fuel, but provides important information about what’s going on inside of us.
“I became a health coach to help support you on your journey towards healing, wholeness, and healthy weight loss.”
Now, my husband and I love cooking for our friends and family since it’s our way of nourishing our close relationships from the inside out.
